Sinking yacht secured with car crane
In a collision between the "Laborieux" and a motor yacht on the Princess Margriet Canal near to Yn'e Lijte at Grou in the afternoon of June 25, 2013, two people were seriously injured. The coxswain of the "Lijnbaansgracht" which followed behind attempted to rescue the victims immediately after the accident happened at 2.45 p.m The ship was underway behind the empty cargo ship "Laborieux" when the Crew saw a yacht emerge bottom up. The yacht was secured by the car crane and could be righted. One of the victims was able to crawl out of the yacht. Short time later emergency service and divers arrived. They pulled out the other Person through a window of the yacht after he was about 10 minutes under water. At 17.45 the police reported that the condition of both victims was stable but critical. The victims were a couple of 64 and 67 years from Lottum. The yacht was still hanging at the crane of the "Lijnbaangracht" at 6 p.m. waiting for a ship to raise the wreck.
