Oil caused fire in rudder engine
A fire in a motor aboard the "Aldemus Dei“, 1258 ts disabled the "Angelus Dei" on the Hunte in the afternoon of Jan 22, 2014. The ship was underway to Nordenham when the Polish master remarked problems with the rudder gear near the fairway bridge in Oldenburg. When entering the engine room he remarked that the motor of the emergency rudder had started to burn. He was able to extinguish the fire within short time, but the ship was ordered back to Oldenburg by the police. He had to travel stern ahead as the Hunte was too small to turn around. The water police Brake found out, that oil which escaped from the engine had caused the fire. As the officers also found out that there the main engine and in the bilge were heavily polluted with an inflammable oil-water-mixture, the ship had to stay in Oldenburg until the pollutants were removed.
