Crew abandoned tanker following water ingress
On June 8, 2016, at 7.12 a.m. the "Epic Comino" with a crew of 17 on board suffered water ingress in the Pearl River Estuary south of Dangan. The crew prepared to abandon ship. The Guangzhou Maritime Bureau coordinated the rescue operation and dispatched the "Coast Guard 09077 ", "Coast Guard 0929" and rescue teams of the South China Sea. At 08.23 a.m. all 17 crew members, among them one Chinese, 15 Filipinos and one Indian, were taken off by the "Coast Guard 1541". The tanker was slightly listing to port but apparently stable and not in danger of sinking. The rescue forces started to dewater the vessel. At 9 a.m. the "Tak" set sail from Shenzhen in order to actively take the initiative and negotiate with the owners. The tug arrived on site at 2 p.m. and immediately started a survey and trasnferred submersible pumps aboard. In the eveningpreparations started to take the ship in tow which was pulled to Guishan anchorage during more than nine hours.
