Deadly fall on tanker of Cherbourg
On Aug 1, 2013 at 9:15 p.m., the "Aegean Faith" requested medical assistance of the CROSS Joburg after one of the crew members had suffered a fall 18 miles north of Cherbourg at the time of the accident. CROSS Joburg organizes a conference call with the maritime medical coordination (SCMM) Le Havre which advised a medical evacuation by helicopter immediately. A EC225 helicopter of the Naval Base in Maupertus was dispatched with two military medicals board of the Health Service of the Armed Forces in Querqueville on board. They were hoisted onto the tanker to provide first aid to the victim. Despite numerous attempts to revive the sailor, he had to be pronounced dead.
