Allision at Rheine

On Aug 12, 2015, at 4 p.m. the "Kavevinja", 1468 ts (EU-No.: 04607900), allided with the Altenhreine railway bridge which is spanning the Dortmund-Ems-Canal at km 120 with a height of 4,25 meters near Rheine. The wheelhouse which had not been lowered enough was crushed and pushed onto the cabin block. The 49 year old master suffered cuts and was treated in hospital. His wife and two sons, which were below deck, remained uninjured. The damage was estimated to be around 100.000 Euro. The barge had loaded concrete parts for wind parks and was bound from Emden to Rendsburg. The ship proceeded to Bergeshövede on Aug 13 with own power for repairs. The railway bridge seemed to have remained undamaged but still had to be inspected in more detail. The accident was caused by negligence.
