Allision with buoy

Thu Nov 30 18:05:38 CET 2017 Timsen

Upon entering the port of Cagliari on Nov 29, 2017, at 08.05 a.m. the "Karina Danica" lost control and allided with a buoy in the entrance channel. Two tugs were already on site to assist the mooring manoever, and she was then towed into Cagliari port and berthed at 10.45 a.m. The Coast Guard, a pilot boat and the port captain intervened immediately to make sure everything was fine. Most likely there was a problem with the propeller pitch, which made it impossible for the ship to properly maneuver. Tests were carried out once the ship had arrived in the harbour, and the hull was checked by divers. The ship left the port again on Dec 1 at 1.15 p.m. after cargo operations, dive inspections by the Italian Coastguard and surveys, next being bound to Bar in Montenegro, ETA Dec 4. Activists protested against arms cargo

Wed Nov 29 18:55:41 CET 2017 Timsen

Sardinia activists protested against turning Cagliari into an arms trade hub, after the "Karina Danica" arrived at Cagliari port on Nov 28, 20017, under tight security, escorted by three tugs and a Coastguard boat. The US company Charming, which is the official supplier of non NATO standard weaponry to US allies or friendly militants in Syria and Middle East in general, was the charterer. The ship was to load some military cargo at Cagliari, having arrived from Santander. The activists said the arms were produced by Bulgarian arms manufacturer Vazovski (VMZ), and Sardinia-based manufacturer.
