Tanker towed to Lerwick after engine trouble in Atlantic

Sun May 10 19:07:23 CEST 2015 Timsen

The "Industrial Kennedy" with a crew of 13 on board suffered engine problem swhile en route from Algeciras to Orkanger on May 7, 2015, between the Faroes and Shetland islands and went adrift 170 miles north west of Foula. The ship was carrying a cargo of steel pipes to Norway from Gibraltar when it blew a turbo-charger. While there was no immediate danger, the tug "Herakles" was initially tasked to the area as a precaution due to the oil installations in the wider area should the vessel drift. The tug then took the vessel under tow, and at first headed towards Scrabster. However plans later changed, and the vessel was towed instead into Lerwick, arriving on May 9 at 6 p.m. and assisted by the "Kebister" on the final leg. The "Herakles" then headed to Kirkwall.
