Grounding on the Danube

On May 27, 2018, at 8. a.m. the "Johann Strauss", 2900 ts (EU-No.: 04803060)which was sailing downstream with barges bound to Passau, ran aground on a gravel bar on the Danube at Reibersdorf in the Straubing-Bogen municipality. Due to a navigational mistake it got out of the fairway at the right river side and got stuck. A Hungarien barge offered assistance and pulled it off again. No damage was reported. The police launched an investigations against the master of the "Johann Strauss".

Allision at Mauthausen

Running downstream on the Danube, the "Johann Strauss", 1900 ts (EU-No.: 04803060), with two barges allided with a pylon of the bridge at Mauthausen in the Perg District. The railway bridge was closed for inspections and traffic between Mauthausen and St. Valentin was stopped in the foremidday of June 18, 2016. The ship suffered small leaks which have to be repaired. The accident was caused by the high water level and currents on the river. After the surveys it was clear that the bridge did not suffer damage, and train traffic could be resumed.
