Brand new vessel broke down on first voyage

Wed Oct 30 10:02:26 CET 2024 Timsen

The 15 crew members of the’ Inuksuk II' have spent two weeks in Athens, after an engine failure stalled the fishing vessel’s first voyage. The plan was for the 'Inuksuk II' to test its fishing gear and pick up fishing crew and food technicians while in St. John’s for a fishing expedition near Baffin Island. The vessel’s eventual destination was to be Iqaluit for a christening ceremony. The 'Inuksuk II' had sailed from the Tersan Shipyard, where it was constructed, bound for St. John’s, N.L., on Oct 13, 2024. On Oct 15, the main engine started shutting down. A tug was dispatched to tow and assist the vessel to the closest port in Athens, where the main engine was repaired. However, one of the vessel’s auxiliary engines was still malfunctioning. The ship’s warranty covers engine failure, so it was decided the 'Inuksuk II' would return to the Tersan Shipyard to fix the issue. It berthed in Altinova on Oct 30.
