Ferry breached in Nordstrand
Upon berthing in the port of Strucklahnungshörn upon Nordstrand the "Insel Amrum" was caught by strong wind gusts of the storm Irenäus and allided with the corner of a sheet piling on March 17, 2018, at 2.20 p.m. The ferry whch had on board 12 passengers, a crew of six, three cars and a trailer suffered strong water ingress. All people were able to disembark safely. The lifeboat "Eiswette" of the DGzRS attended and started dewatering the ferry with submersible pumps. Also the volunteer forces of the fire rescues from Nordstrand, Hattstedt and Husum, the Technical Support Work (THW) and the water police were on scene and started to stabilize the ship jointly with representatives of the NPDG (Neue Pellwormer Dampfschiffahrts GmbH). They managed to patch the leak. On March 18 at 1.30 p.m. the ferry docked at the Husum Shipyard for repairs. The ferry "Hilligenlei" was called as a replacement ship in the Nordstrand-Pellworm-service. The "Insel Amrum" left the yard again after repairs on March 26 at 8.30 a.m and headed to Pellworm in order to resume the service between the island and Nordstrand.
