Departure from Boulogne delayed due to asbestos discovery

Fri Mar 13 11:05:46 CET 2020 Timsen

The 'Plastic Odyssey', a former oceanographic research vessel which being transformed into a floating plastic recycling laboratory was due to leave the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer for Concarneau but remained docked following the discovery of asbestos on board last week. Since its acquisition last October, the ship has been undergoing transformation to become a laboratory for solutions to plastic pollution. When it was due to leave the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer and head to Concarneau to continue its renovation, asbestos was found in confined spaces on ships. Immediately. All safety measures have been taken on board. The asbestos removal work will cause a delay in the departure of the vessel from one to three weeks.
