First fine for burning fuel with too much sulfur content
On the way from Lisbon to Riga, the "Niki C" was controlled by the water police in Kiel on Feb 12, 2015. The officials found that based on the oil diaries the ship still had been sailing with fuel oil for several hours after having passed the line Ushant-Falmouth where only the burning fuel with a content of 0,1 percent sulfur is being allowed since Jan 1. For the investigation and possible fine the officer in charge had to pay a security deposit of 1200 euros. The ship berthed at the Bominflot Bunker Station in Kiel short past 1 a.m. and was allowed to continue around 6 p.m. with an ETA at Riga of Feb 14.
