6000 cars temporarily stuck off Livorno
The "Hoegh Asia", loaded with 6000 cars, run aground on May 4, 2012, around 10:00 p.m. on a shoal near the Livorno harbor entrance. The ship was coming from Valletta, where it had sailed on May 1. The crew of 20 was not injured when the vessel with its draft of eight meters struck the sandy or muddy bottom in a water depth of only six metres. However, the ship managed to refloat with seven tugs after lightering of bunker fuel, and docked in Darsena Toscana Sponda Est in Livorno on May 5 at 6.30 p.m. Italian report with photos: http://www.ilsecoloxix.it/p/italia/2012/05/05/APQbKuRC-sbarco_arenata_operazioni.shtml#axzz1u0TokXeM http://news.liberoreporter.eu/?p=25971
