53 migrants rescued off Zakynthos
On the afternoon hours of Aug 7,.2024, the Port Authorities of Katakolo, Zakynthos and Kefallinia were informed about a sailing vessel in possible danger with a sufficient number of migrantsson board about 26 nautical miles west of Zakynthos. Ships in the vicinity were notified, and the 'Henry Maersk' diverted to assist. The tanker crew safely picked up the 74 castaways, among them 53 men, nine women and 12 minors, and transported them to the port of Katakolos with the escort of a lifeboat. They were then transferred onto the passenger ferry 'Mimis G.' and landed safely at the port. The Port Authority of Katakolo, which was conducting the preliminary investigation in collaboration with the Directorate of Security and Protection of Maritime Borders, found that the boat had come from the Marmaris region and was destined to Italy. Five people were arrested for violation of article 30 par. 1C of Law 4251/2014 (Immigration and Social Integration Code and other provisions) and article 306 of the P.C. Small oil spill in Burrard Inlet
Crews were responding to a bunker oil spill from the 'Henry Marsk' in the Burrard Inlet on Feb 22, 2021. The Western Canada Marine Response Corp. deployed the anti-pollution vessel 'Texada Sentinel' with a crew of four around 10:30 a.m. to the anchorage between Cates Park/ Whey-ah-Wichen and Belcarra Regional Park where the tanker was refuelling. There was some sort of fuel burp during that operation and some fuel went onto the deck and about three litres of that got into the water. The response agency deployed a second containment boom around the vessels and started cleaning the hull. The small spill was unlikely to result in lasting environmental damage. Transport Canada’s pollution spotting plane has done flyovers of the site. The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s tender Takaya was also on the scene, as well as two tugs.
