New port of call in existing route
From August 13, 2020, Stena Line will start a new freight focused connection between Latvia, Sweden and Germany by adding a port-call in Karlskrona on the existing ferry route between Liepaja and Travemünde. The additional service to freight customers a portcall in Karlskrona on the existing route between Liepaja and Travemünde, enabling more effective trade and transport opportunities between the Baltic countries and southern Scandinavia. The route between Liepaja and Travemünde is operated by the two Danish flagged RoPax vessels 'Stena Gothica' and 'Urd', both 171 meter long with a freight capacity of 1,600 lane meters. The new weekly port-call in Karlskrona will initially be in the direction Liepaja-Travemünde on Thursday evenings.
Passenger died on board
In the night of July 7, 2020, the Danish police was alerted that a dead person had been found on the 'Stena Gothica' off Karlskrona. The ship was on international waters at that time. The vessel was enroute from Liepaja to Travemünde. Since the Blekinge Hospital in Karlskrona was the closest hospital, the body of the passenger was taken there.
Medevac off Warnemünde
On Sep 2, 2019, a Sea King MK41 of the German navy base in Nordholz was deployed to medevac a sick crew member from the "Stena Gothica" which was enroute from Travemünde to Liepaja. The patient was hoisted off Warnemünde and taken to the university hospital in Rostock for treatment.
