Dutch ro-ro operators unite

Tue Nov 18 09:02:44 CET 2014 arnekiel

Dutch ro-ro shipping company, NMT Group, today announced the takeover of compatriot operator, RMR Shipping, IHS-Maritime reports. All liner activities and staff will be integrated with NMT in a new enlarged West Africa-trades division called NMT Africa, based at the latter's branch office in Antwerp. NMT is specialised in worldwide shipments of cars, trucks, trailers and other rolling cargoes, while RMR has been focusing on southbound traffic from North Europe to Gambia, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal and Ivory Coast. Both companies have a similar setup in that they operate charter vessels or fixed space allocations without direct vessel ownership. "The new company is partly responding to requests for a dedicated NMT entity responsible for both operations and commercial activities for this particular area [West Africa]," the company said in a statement today. The new service structure will be put in place by 1 January 2015, it said.
