Crews are working to refloat the "Sault au Cochon" that ran aground on a sand bar in the Northumberland Strait after heavy rains and wind caused thetow line between the 100-metre barge and the "Florence M" to snap on Nov. 10. Many of the 6,400 tonnes of pulp logs and machinery being carried by barge fell into the water. The logs were destined for the mill in Abercrombie. Crews were working to remove the water from the barge on Nov 29. About 50 liters of diesel fuel from the machinery spilled into the water when the barge ran aground. There are crews from Eastern Canada Response Corporation Ltd. on the scene with response equipment in case more pollutants are discovered during the refloating process. The barge is secured to a jack-up rig in order to give it stability. Crews are hoping to take the barge to Pictou on Nov 30. The clean up of the logs continues.
