Burning container ship allided with berthed bulk carrier

After a fire broke out in the engine room of the container m/v 'Cape Kortia', while it was navigating through the Pacific access to the Panama Canal en route to the PSA Puerto Panama International Terminal, the ship got out of control and was in allision with the 'Ernst Oldendorff' at the Rosadani Terminal near the Puente de Las Américas. The assisting tugs managed to avoid manjor damage. During these manoevers, one of the tugs nearly ran aground in the vicinity of the Balboa Port terminal. Engine faiilure at Dixon Entrance

The 'Ernst Oldendorff' suffered a total failure of an auxiliary engine in position 54 41 11.3 N, 130 29 34.4 W, on Nov 20, 2019, at 6.30 a.m. at the Dixon Entrance. The master reported that the disabled engine did not affect the vessel's operations and was to be repaired in Stewart where the ship arrived on Nov 30 at 10.10 a.m. and left on its next voyage bound to Ulsan with an ETA as of Dec 22.
