Russian crewed tanker caused safety concerns
The 'Energy Afrodite' berthed at the Equinor LNG production terminal in Hammerfest from Oct 28-30, 2022, raising safety concerns in the community. Although the tanker is British flagged and operated by Greece, it is crewed exclusively by Russians. In addition, the crew was changed, and the replacement crew consisted entirely of Russians. Norway has banned all Russian ships from calling at Norwegian ports, with the exception of fishing vessels, which are allowed to call at certain ports. However, the ban does not apply to non-Russian ships with a Russian crew. In view of the gas war between Russia and the EU, the LNG plant is of strategic importance not only for Norway but for the entire EU. In addition, Russian seafarers were granted shore leave so that they could move about freely. The scandal was spreading, with politicians and security experts demanding a response from the Government. In the morning of Nov 9, the tanker drifted off Mongstad, with an ETA as of 7 a.m. Report with photos: https://www.nrk.no/tromsogfinnmark/skip-med-kun-russiske-sjofolk-la-til-kai-pa-equinors-gassanlegg-pa-melkoya-i-hammerfest-1.16170661
