Water ingress on the Neckar
The "Emanuel IV", 1165 ts (EU-No.: 04500680;), suffered water ingress above the Neckar lock in Neckargemünd at Heidelberg/Schlierbach due to a technical malfunction on Feb 12, 2019, at 10.20 a.m. About 25 tons water leaked into the engine room of the ship which was loaded with 1.150 tons plaster. The water ingress was caused by a defective deck pump. The water mixed up with oil in the engine room, so that the alerted fire rescue laid out an oil boom around the vessel, before two vacuum trucks which were ordered by the attending Heidelberg fire brigade sucked the mixture out of the ship again. Also the German Life Saving Society (DLRG) was on scene. The ship traffic on the Neckar was barred for 30 minutes as well as the road traffic on the B 37.
