Medevac off Sassnitz
On Aug 20,, 2013, a crew member of the "Elisabeth Mann Borgese" was medevaced 10 miles east of Sassnitz after having suffered a cardiac arrest. The ship was enroute from Rostock to Sweden when it reported the case to the MRCC Bremen at 8.20 p.m. and requested an immediate evacuation of the patient. The lifeboat "Harro Koebke" of the DGzRS-station Sassnitz. A helicopter with a medical on board was sent from Greifswald at 8.50 p.m. and landed on the helideck of the lifeboat to transfer the medical and an assistant on board. At 9.20 p.m. they boarded the research vessel and treated the patient who was then transferred onto the lifeboat on a stretcher. He was taken with high speed to Sassnitz while the medical treatment was continued in the ship's hospital. Once in port, the helicopter was already waiting to take him further to the hospital in Greifswald.
Medvac off Ruegen
A scientiest aboard the "Elisbeth Mann Borge" had to be medevaced after he possibly had suffered a heart attack on Nov 29, 2011. The ship was enroute Warnemünde - Gotland about 14 miles NW of Rügen island. The lifeboat "Wilhelm Kaisen" took the man off at the northern tip of Rügen and transported him to Sassnitz where an ambulance was waiting and carried him to a hospital.
New german research ship delivered
On Wednesday the fleet of research ships, which is managed by the Leeraner shipping company Briese, is again complete. In Rostock " Elizabeth Mann Borgese" was delivered. The shipping company Briese operates the ship and provides the crew. " Elizabeth Mann Borgese" will operate in the Baltic Sea and replaces the 60 year old used " Professor Albrecht Penck".
