Tragic accident on Main-Danube Canal
A deckhand of the 'Dunav 3' fell into the Main-Danube Canal near the Möhrendorf lock in the afternoon of May 4, 2022. The 37-year-old man had left the ship to do some shopping for the team by bike. The captain wanted to take the sailor back on board further down the canal and had already cast off. However, he had not noticed that the 37-year-old had already fallen into the water. Witnesses near the lock noticed this, quickly pulled him out of the canal and were in the process of resuscitating him on the canal wall, when the captain realized something must have happened. So he berthed again, but unfortunately caught the sailor's leg, which was still hanging over the wall in the rush of the rescue operation. Rescue workers who were summoned took over the resuscitation a little later. The man was eventually taken to the emergency room, but died there. The autopsy must now clarify the medical reasons for which the man died. The Criminal Investigation Department took over the investigation. Barge refloated near Bingen
After almost a week aground the 'Dunav 3' was refloated in the evening of Nov 25 on the Rhine at Bingen. Before, 300 tons of the cargo of 800 tons wheat pellets had been lightered to reduce the draught of the vessel. It was then towed to the dolphins of an adjacent mooring where the cargo is getting unloaded completely and moved onto the Dutch barge 'Romera'. Then a damage survey was carried out in the port of Bingen by inspectors of the river authority. The barge left Bingen on Nov 28 at 7 p.m., bound to Amsterdam.
Grounding near Bingen
The 'Dunav 3', 1065 ts (EU-No.: 02312678), ran aground on the Rhine near Bingen on Nov 20, 2019, at 6.20 a.m. at the Rüdesheim Aue during a turning manoever on the river at km 526,75. The ship was loaded with 896 tons wheat pellets. got stuck outside the fairway in pos. 49° 58.36' N 007° 55.23' E. All attempts to pull the vessel off with a tug failed so far. During the salvage work the river was timewise barred for passing ship traffic. The work was now to be continued on Nov 21. Once the ship was floating again, it was planned to take it into the port of Bingen for investigations and a decision whether the vessel may continue its voyage to Amsterdam.
