Barge blocked Meuse River
In the foremidday of Jan 30, 2020, the 'DC Mosa 1', 1174 ts (EU-No.: 06002781), enroute from Huy in Belgium to Zuutendal, drifted perpendicular to the fairway on the Meuse river at Anseremme, thus blocking all ship traffic for a few hours. The ship had been disabled by a hydraulich leak in the steering system so that the helmsman lost control of the ship upstream of the Anseremme lock, close to Dinant. The master in vain attempted to stabilize the ship by running the bow onto the river bank but the current pushed his ship across the river with the stern getting stuck on the opposite side.Firefighters from the Dinaphi were quickly on the spot. A winch was deployed as reinforcement. The locks were also used to raise the water level. After a little more than three hours, the ship could be refloated. During this time also the road between Waulsort and Neffe had been closed for the intervention of the firefighters. The ship then moored for investigations, and the master's certificate was withdrawn by the Walloon authorities.
