Container ship participated in SAR operation

Thu Dec 05 17:22:58 CET 2024 Timsen

The 'Cosco Glory' participated in an SAR operation, launched by the Indian Coast Guard, during which the 12 crew members of the m/v 'Al Piranpir' (MMSI: 419956499), which sank in the north Arabian Sea en route from Porbandar in Gujarat to Bandar Abbas on the morning of Dec 4, 2024, were rescued. The vessel got in distress in rough seas outside Indian waters, within Pakistan's search and rescue region. The Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) successfully coordinated the rescue operation. The 12 survivors were found adrift in a life raft. A PMSA aircraft was immediately tasked to locate the survivors, while nearby commercial vessels were alerted and requested to assist in the rescue. Te JRCC placed both Pakistan Navy and PMSA ships on high alert, with the nearest navy ship promptly dispatched to the scene. Additionally, necessary arrangements were made to enable the nearby Indian Coast Guard vessel 'Sarthak' in the adjacent exclusive economic zone to recover the castaways, The 'Sarthak' conducted an extensive search operation. They were located approximately 270 km west of Dwarka and taken aboard the Coast Guard vessel, where they were medically examined.
