Tanker was threatened to drift on rocks

Wed Oct 23 17:22:01 CEST 2019 Timsen

The 'Christina' suffered an engine failure off Bud in Hustadvika in Møre og Romsdalo on Oct 23, 2019, at 3.30 p.m. and radioed a Mayday being threatened to drift ashore in the skerries. The ship was enroute from Elnesvågen, where it had sailed at 1.45 p.m., to Aberdeen with a crew of 15 and 400 tons bunker oil on board. There was stormy weather in the area. The fish farm supply vessel 'Frøy Harvest' (MMSI: 257170000) was only 30 sailing minutes away and immediately headed towards the 'Christina' which tried to stop the drift with an emergency anchoring manoever. The service ship managed to establish a towing connection and kept the tanker from grounding until the Norwegian tug 'Vivax' (IMO: 9429546), had arrived short time later. Also SAR helicopters were alerted to take off the crew in case needed and arrived jointly with the tug. At 4 p.m. the two ships jointly started pulling the tanker back to the quay in Elnesvågen. The helicopters were stood down at 4.20 p.m. after the situation was under control and the mayday liefted. The convoy arrived bach at Elnesvågen at 8.40 p.m. The tanker left Elnesvågen again on Oct 28 at 6.20 p.m. and headed to Antwerp with an ETA as of Oct 31, 7 a.m. Norwegian reports with photos: https://ilaks.no/tankbat-fikk-motorstopp-og-var-naer-ved-a-ga-pa-land-reddet-av-froy-harvest/ https://www.nrk.no/mr/tankbat-med-motorstopp-1.14753965 https://www.tk.no/hustadvika https://www.rbnett.no/nyheter/2019/10/23/Tankb%C3%A5t-fikk-motorstans-utenfor-Bud-20232241.ece
