Ship buckled in Andernach
On July 2, 2019, at 3.45 p.m. the "Zeus", 1909 ts (EU-No.: 04003730;), buckled in the river port of Andernach upon the Rhine while it was loaded with lava. The fire brigade tried to keep the ship afloat. The river traffic at the accident site was barred in the afternoon to prevent the flooding vessel from suction and swell. About 25-30 ships were affected. The "Zeus" had already loaded 1.000 tons of the cargo. The fire brigade started dewatering the cargo hold, while a dredger started removing the lava and managed to stabilize the ship. It was subsequently taken alongside by the container barge "Triangle" (MMSI:244710133) and towed into the Andernach port. At 9.45 p.m. the river was reopened again.
