Fishing vessel suffered water ingress

The Fraserburgh RNLI lifeboat "Willie and May Gall" was launched on June 24, 2013, to the "BF 101 - Sunlight Ray" which was taking in water 17 miles east of Fraserburgh. The crew of the vessel had radioed the Aberdeen Coastguard requesting new pumps as their own onboard equipment was failing to cope. The RNLI lifeboat left its berth in Fraserburgh Harbour at high speed in choppy conditions with swells of around six and a half feet and wind speeds of 20-25 knots to go to the aid of the stricken vessel. They met the "Sunlight Ray" just before midday. The coxswain manouvered the lifeboat alongside the "Sunlight Ray" in a heavy swell and transferred two pumps. But the crew of the "Sunlight Ray" was not familiar with the pumps and how they worked so the RNLI boat transferred two of their volunteers on to their boat to help them set them up. Once the pumps were working the "Sunlight Ray" crew was able to make ist way back to shore under own steam.
