Collision near Weurt

Thu Jun 19 09:31:49 CEST 2014 Timsen

The "Factofour", 6438 ts (EU-No.: 02330686), was in collision with the French barge "Cervantes", 725 ts (EU-No.: 02311316), at the approach of the Maas-Waal-Canal near Weurt in the morning of June 18, 2014. The "Factofour" was loaded with containers and had passed the lock at Weurt, coming from Duisburg, and turned towards Rotterdam, when the "Cervantes", which was enroute from Maasbracht to Rotterdam, ran into its port side which was torn open. As the container barge was carrying dangerous goods, the fire brigade was called. Due to the double hull of the "Factofour" there was no water ingress, and the ship moored at the pilings before proceeding further to Antwerp where it berthed at the container dock on June 19 at 4.30 a.m. The "Cervantes" had suffered considerable damage to its portside foreship, but no water ingress. The Landelijke Eenheid (former KLPD) launched an investigation.
