Ship underway with drunken master

Mon Sep 29 18:57:35 CEST 2014 Timsen

Coming from Varberg with the "Scot Trader", the master of the vessel was found to heavily intoxicated when approaching Gothenburg to bunker fuel on Sep 28, 2014. Several other ships had spotted the ship which sometimes was on the wrong side of the fairway. When the ship anchored around 8 p.m., the Swedish Coast Guard was able to seize the Estonian master on suspicion of drinking at the helm. A blood sample showed 0.97 mg/l alcohol which meant an alcohol kevel of 1.94 per thousand. The captain was later arrested by prosecutors. The ship remained in Gothenburg until Sep 29 when it left bound for Rochester with a new master on board and an ETA of Oct 2.

Sailors stranded since 131 days

Tue Jan 08 10:14:34 CET 2013 Timsen

Six sailors from Russia, Portugal and the Cape Verdes are stranded aboard the "Penafiel" at the Quai aux Charbonsin in the port of Marseille since Aug 29, 2012, since the owner did not pay no more. The vessel was seized by creditors because of unpaid invoices by the owner, the Portuguese Naveiro. Since then, the crew is coping with the means at hand., The Asociation Marseillaise des Amis des Marins(AMAM), came to their aid offering them a washing machine and telephone cards. In the port of Marseille, three other vessels are blocked too, among them the "Atlantic Star" which is docked since Aug 6, 2009, which belongs to the company Pulmanntur. 90 crew members are still on board but receive a salary. The "Princess Danae" and "Athena" are stranded since late last summer. Their crews were able to return to their home countries.
