Maintenance barge of ferry sank
A 110 foot long maintenance barge which was being used as a fueling station for the "Catalina Express" which services between Long Beach and Santa Catalina Island, partially sank at it’s berth in Long Beach after having suffered water ingress and developing a list on Oct 22, 2014, at 11.30 p.m. Local crews were able to shut off the diesel fuel flow to the barge. No reports of pollution released. Authorities placed booms around the barge to contain any pollution. Reports state salvage crews were to attempt to refloat and stabilize the barge while divers inspected the hull for leaks. Investigators believed the leak is coming from somewhere near the forward end of the barge. The barge was not impacting departures for the "Catalina Express" which had its first departure in the morning of Oct 23 as scheduled.
