Tanker stuck on submerged obstruction on the Elbe

Mon Jul 20 11:44:28 CEST 2015 Timsen

In the early afternoon of July 18, 2015, at 12.30 p.m. the "Bliek" was disabled and allided with a submerged old quay wall on the Elbe at river km 579 near the ferry berth Tesperhude and drifted perpendicular to the fairway. The tanks with 1080 tons cargo remained undamaged. The tanker had sailed from Hamburg-Finkenriek at 8.40 a.m. and was bound to Hildesheim, when both engines failed due to technical malfunctions. The current pushed the tanker towards the river shore until it hit the obstruction. Around 6 p.m. the sister ship "Asterode" was sent by Sunrise and pulled the damaged tanker to Scharnebeck where it was berthed on July 19 at 7.30 p.m. divers surveyed the damage. Six cubic meters ballast water was pumped out of the damaged forepeak. The hull suffered bumps and dents. The ship was allowed to proceed by the authorities with restrictions.
