Bulkcarrier kept from running aground after anchor dragged

Wed Jan 27 10:51:51 CET 2016 Timsen

Only rapid action prevented the "Golden Enterprise" from running aground on the Wester Scheldt near Terneuzen in the night of Jan 26, 2016. The bulkcarrier was suddenly dragging anchor. By quickly starting the engine, the tug "Braakman" being already on scene and the assistance of three tugs of Multraship and one of URS, the situation could be brought under control. At 10:55 p.m. the anchor was lifted, and the ship returned to the anchorage area of the Put of Terneuzen. On Jan 27 at 9.25 the vessel berthed at the Rodenhuizen Dock in Gent. If bulk carriers are too deeply loaded for the call at Ghent-Terneuzen, they first drop anchor at the Put of Terneuzen, where a part of the cargo is unloaded before entering port.
