Grounding on the Rhine
The "Brandini“, 2.648 ts (ENI-No.: 02335817), being underway from Karlsruhe to Antwerp with a cargo of 2.000 tons naphta, ran aground on the Rhine at Wörth on Nov 16, 2017, at 4.40 a.m. short after leaving the oil port in Karlsruhe. The ship passed a fairway buoy on the wrong side and got stuck on a groyne at the Wörther Ground with the bow. It was pushed perpendicular to the fairway by the current and ran aground between the groynes. The Dutch flagged container barges "Millennium“ (MMSI-Nr.: 244660351) and "Azolla" (MMSI: 244030549) started with refloating attempts in the foremidday. Passing ship traffic was not affected after the grounding, but during the salvage work the river was barred for shipping for 2,5 hours. 10 hours after the grounding the barge was refloated and towed to the mineral oil port in Karlsruhe at 2.40 p.m for investigations. She sailed again on Nov 17 at 11.30 a.m. German reports with photos and video: https://www.presseportal.de/blaulicht/pm/117719/3789962 https://www.rnz.de/nachrichten/metropolregion/polizeibericht-metropolregion_artikel,-schiff-festgefahren-tankmotorschiff-steckt-bei-woerth-im-rhein-fest-_arid,316884.html https://www.rheinpfalz.de/lokal/artikel/germersheim-festsitzendes-schiff-freigeschleppt-mit-video/ http://www.ka-news.de/region/karlsruhe/Karlsruhe~/2-000-Tonnen-Rohbenzin-geladen-Tankschiff-faehrt-sich-vor-Karlsruher-OElhafen-fest;art6066,2148893
