Barge lost oil after collision

On Mar 4, 2015, around 4 p.m. the barge "Zandkreek", 723 ts (EU-No.: 02005828), was in a head-on-collision with the "Ben-Gus", 1715 ts (EU-No.: 06004295) on the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal. Both vessels have suffered significant damage. The coal carrying "Ben-Gus" was prohibited to sail from the police. As it lost fuel oil, it was surrounded by an oil boom to prevent a pollution. The sand carrying "Zandkreek" was allowed to continue to Antwerp but has to call at a yard after the cargo has been unloaded. The National Police Agency assumed that a lack of communication between the two vessels was the cause of the accident.
