Oil detector trouble
The 'BBC Balboa', while en route from Rostock to Oktyabrsk with 12 crew members on board, suffered an oil detector damage in position 49 26 55.8 N, 004 26 22.8 W on March 23, 2020, at 2.20 p.m. off the British coast. After the crew carried out repairs, the vessel was underway again at 4 p.m. and headed to Flushing. On March 25 around 9 a.m. it berthed at the Damen Shipyard for permanent repairs. She sailed again on March 27 at 5.20 a.m., headed to Olvia, ETA April 10.
Leaking pipe in English Channel
The "BBC Balboa", while en route from Antwerp to Punta Arenas, reported a leaking pipe, while transiting the Dover Traffic Separation Zone, approximately 20 nautical miles south of Selsey Bill, on May 27, 2018, at 03.33 a.m. The crew carried out the neccessary repairs, and the vessel resumed sailing.
Medevac off Costa Rica
The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter "Hamilton" medically evacuated a crewmember aboard the "BBC Balboa" approximately 690 miles offshore of Costa Rica in the morning of Dec 6, 2016, while conducting a routine law enforcement patrol. Watchstanders aboard the "Hamilton" received a report from the crew of the cargo vessel that a 28-year-old Russian male crewmember was experiencing symptoms consistent with appendicitis. The Coast Guard duty flight surgeon recommended that the patient be medically evacuated and taken to a hospital for emergency care. The "Hamilton" launched a small boat to assist the injured man and brought him aboard the the cutter where they transited towards Liberia. A Coast Guard MH-65 helicopter aboard the "Hamilton" launched several hours later to transport the injured crewmember to the Daniel Oduber International airport to receive a higher level of care.
