Pork alert in Chiriqui

Inspectors from the Executive Directorate of Agricultural Quarantine of the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) found 80 pounds of pork from the Dominican Republic, in the province of Bocas del Toro inside the refrigerators of the 'Balsa 91' at the Chiriqui Grande Terminal where the ship had arrived on Aug 4, 2021. There is an zoosanitary alert in Panama due to the threat of African Swine Fever (ASF. The vessel was approached by the agricultural quarantine inspectors in the port of Chiriquí Grande in Bocas del Toro. The ship plans to load raw sugar bound to the United States. The pork came from Pedro Macori. The vessel will be in port for three days without the crew of it being able to open the refrigerators in the galley where the pork is located, since they were kept closed under a seal and custody until leaving the port facilities. A record of retention and custody was drawn up.
