Ancora Investment Trust acquires product tanker Alexander Spirit

Mon Sep 23 12:16:55 CEST 2019 arnekiel

Ancora Investment Trust has acquired 2007-built MR1 product tanker Alexander Spirit from Teekay LNG Partners, multiple brokers report. The Greek MR product tanker specialist has paid $11.5m for the tanker according to both Seasure Shipbroking and Advanced Shipping & Trading, a price significantly cheaper than the $12.6m valuation of the ship by VesselsValue.

Alexander Spirit crew uncertain of future as ship leaves Tasmania, union says

Wed Jul 22 11:13:45 CEST 2015 arnekiel

A Caltex oil tanker at the centre of industrial action for the past three weeks has finally left north-west Tasmania, bound for Singapore. The Alexander Spirit had been docked in Devonport since the start of this month, when 36 crew members were told they would be replaced by foreign workers. A picket line was set up and the seafarers refused to crew the oil tanker, but their industrial action was deemed illegal. The ship's departure was then delayed by a lack of crew members after some left the ship citing stress. But a full crew was in place yesterday. State secretary of the Australian Maritime Union Jason Campbell said supporters turned out to farewell the ship which left port at 3:00am. "We met with the crew just before they sailed, there were obviously mixed feelings," he said. "They don't know what their future holds. "There's 36 Australian seafarers that will no longer have a job in our industry, that's another 36 guys that will virtually join dole queues." http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-07-22/alexander-spirit-leaves-tasmania-after-standoff/6638608
