Tank barge hit by floodgate

In the evening of Jan 28, 2015, the "Ro-Ver", 2842 ts (EU-No.: 02333736), whilst coming from Tolkamer and transiting from the Waal- towards the Amsterdam-Rhine-Canal, was hit by the floodgate of the Prince Bernhard locks near Tiel, which struck the vessel like a guillotine. The ship was carrying a cargo of naphtha, a volatile and flammable substance, but the tanks were not damaged. The lock was temporarily inaccessible after the accident as the floodgate first had to be hoisted. Ships could pass the locks only through an adjacent lock chamber. The lock remained inaccessible until 9.30 a.m. on Jan 29 because the floodgate had to be lifted first. The slightly damaged ship was moored at the side of the lock.
