Fire and water on luxury yacht
In the evening of Aug 21, 201, the "Amapolla" was in danger of sinking in the Bay of Villefranche sur Mer. Water had entered through the door of the tender garage in the late afternoon. The captain alerted the Cross Med as he was unable to resolve the problem aboard the yacht which had on board 14 passengers. The CROSS Med dispatched two SNSM lifeobats and a Dauphin helicopter Dauphin of the French Navy. The passengers were quickly transferred aboard the lifeboat. The situation of the yacht was dcritical as it developed a list of 15 degrees, despite the bilge pumps running at full power. It was therefore decided to send the pilot boat from the port of Nice to meet the "Amapolla" to tow it to shore. Only on Aug 22 at 2 a.m. the situation could be brought under control, and also a small electrical fire could be extinguished.
