Barge was threatened to sink near Melle
On Feb 21, 2020, at 8 p.m. the 'Adventure', 894 ts (EU-No.: 02315179), allided with a pillar of the railway bridge on the Scheldt near Melle. The bow was crushed, and the ship started taking on water through several cracks and was soon threatened to sink. The crew of two was brought ashore by the fire brigade which brought heavy pumps on board to stem the severe flooding. The situation could be brought under control, and salvage ship was deployed to assist too. Meanwhile, the emergency services continued to pump water. The ship was towed to the lock in Merelbeke where the cargo of limestone was transferred onto a lighter ship and the hold further pumped out. On Feb 22 at 10.30 a.m. the ship was safely brought to the dry dock of Zelzate in Ghent for repairs. A private diving company was looking for a lost anchor at the accident site in the afternoon.
