Ship arrested after oil sludge was found in sewage tank

The water police detained the "Chopin" at berth 43 in the Seaport of Rostock after they remarked that oil residues were illegally bunkered in a sewage tank during a control on Dec 11, 2012. After further defiencies were found, the ship was arrested. A Polish company was tasked to clean the tank. The ship was carrying rotor blades for wind turbines to Frederikshavn and had docked in Rostock on Dec 9. Criminal proceedings were launched against the Russian technical officer.

German freighter Chopin allided with German Reefer Atlantic Mermaid in S-Petersburg

German cargo vessel Chopin during docking in S-Petersburg Big Port contacted berthed German reefer Atlantic Mermaid and then allided with Berth 20 on Sep 13 2012. The pilot on board of Chopin blamed Master for neglecting his recommendations and miscalculating the force of the local strong current. Namely, Master rejected to hire the tug, and tried to berth the vessel by own means. The damages of both vessels and the berth are presently unknown. Maritime Bulletin http://www.odin.tc
