Russian-owned bulk carrier Sea Master-1: is there any real problem on board?

Sat Oct 22 15:27:59 CEST 2011 odinfm

There is a problem with Russian-owned bulk carrier Sea Master 1, chartered by WFP for humanitarian food deliveries to Somali. The problem emerged in September, when two members of the Russian crew demanded immediate repatriation under the pretext of piracy threat. Russian Seamen Trade Union made a scandal out of it in Russian media, claiming crew is afraid of pirates, and demands repatriation. Charterer of the vessel proved those fears to be false, and claimed there were only two troublemakers. It looked like scandal was extinguished, meanwhile vessel arrived to Mombasa. There the story got a new impulse, as two inspectors of the ITF checked the vessel and threatened shipowner with full-scale campaign against his vessels throughout the world, in case shipowner reject to fulfill the demands of the ITF. The full story is too big to be published here, read all at http://www.odin.tc/news/read.asp?articleID=87 Maritime Bulletin
