Hurtigruten to homeport Trollfjord as Maud in Dover for the first time in 2021
Norway-based operator Hurtigruten is to offer winter sailings from the Port of Dover in England in the winter 2021-2022 season – a first for the 126-year-old company. Hurtigruten will offer a series of 12-day ‘Norway Expedition’ voyages between October 2021 and March 2022, departing from Dover and calling at various ports along the Norwegian coast. The cruises will be offered on Maud, which is currently sailing as Trollfjord and is o ne of three Hurtigruten vessels that will soon be converted into luxury hybrid-powered expedition cruise ships .
Hurtigruten to Refit Cruise Ship Trollfjord with Hybrid Power
Norwegian cruise and ferry operator Hurtigruten is investing heavily in an eco-friendly luxury refit program for three of its existing vessels - the 2002-built Finnmarken, 2002-built Trollfjord and 2003-built Midnatsol. All three will be repowered with new Tier 3-compliant engines, along with battery packs and hybrid drive systems. This will make them the second, third and fourth hybrid cruise ships in the world (after the Hurtigruten hybrid newbuild Roald Amundsen). They will also receive new shore power connection systems. The Finnmarken will be the first to receive the upgrade in 2020, followed by Trollfjord and Midnatsol in 2021.
