Medevac off Cádiz

Fri Dec 20 09:33:14 CET 2024 Timsen

The 'Timberland', en route from Damietta to Fredericia, requested the medical evacuation of a crew member 28 nautical miles soutwest of Cádiz on Dec 19, 2024. The CCS Tarifa of Salvamento Marítimo mobilized the SAR helicopter Helimer 220 to assist, which hoisted the patient and transferred him to the Jerez airport, where an ambulance was waiting for him.

Search for second missing man abandoned

Mon Nov 26 18:43:06 CET 2012 Timsen

The search for the missing crew man of the "Timberland" was stopped in the late morning of Nov 26. After consultation with all stakeholders, it was decided to abandon the search. However, a Coast Guard plane planned to make some overflights of the area off Terschelling in the afternoon.

Two men lost overboard off Terschelling

Mon Nov 26 10:53:43 CET 2012 Timsen

Enroute Gävle-Alexandria the "Timberland" lost two crew members overboard 110 km north of Terschelling on Nov 25, 2012. at 4.05 p.m. Immediately a distress signal was sent, but two helicopters were struggling to stay aloft. The German Navy deployed one helicopter from Borkum which sighted two lights, but did not have enough fuel to investigate this further. A smoke marker was dropped when a Dutch helicopter proceeded to that position recovered one man. The helicopter then headed directly to the offshore platform "G17a", because it was running out of fuel too. The recovered person was already deceased. A passing merchant ship sighted the other light from the life vest, but the helicopter was unable to take off from the platform until the wind decreased. The two lifeboats of the KNRM, who were en route to the search area, had to return as one had engine problems and returned to station escorted by the other. At that time there was a 9-10 SW gale. The search has been abandoned in the evening due to darkness and adverse weather. Both were wearing life vests but no survival suits. Wave heights were around 10 meters, the water temperature 8/9 degrees Celsius. The search was resumed in the morning of Nov 26.
