Collision off Cuba

Sun Mar 27 19:22:13 CEST 2022 Timsen

The tanker 'Theodoros I.V.' (IMO: 9103831) was in collision with the 'Petion' following the malfunction of CPP pump No.1 resulting in an unresponsiveness of pthe itch of the CPP, in slow ahead command whilst manoeuvring at Cienfuegos inner anchorage on March 22, 2022. The 'Theodoros I.V.' sustained a slight deformation of the hull plating at starboard side from the height of the main deck approximately one metre downwards. The vessel was detained as the result of a Port State Control due to the unsafe condition of the hull. The 'Petion' remained undamaged. No injuries nor pollution were reported.

Crew member went missing

Fri May 14 21:58:33 CEST 2021 Timsen

Rafael Desiderio Martínez Alonso, a crew member of the 'Petion', disappeared from the tanker on May 10, 2021, while it was heading from a shipyard in Veracruz, where it had sailed on May 6, to the Cardón terminal in Venezuela, marking the second incident aboard the same ship in about a year. The Antillean crew member was not found on board. The ship anchored off Punto Fijo on May 14.

Helmsman died after falling over board

Wed Mar 04 11:14:33 CET 2020 Timsen

The Cuban national Juan Carlos Navarrete, 58, who served as a helmsman aboard the 'Petion' died when the tanker was carrying oil from Amuay Bay to Cienfugos. He died after falling over board while the ship was anchored in Amuay Bay in western Venezuela. The ship was one of those sanctioned by the United States Government for transporting oil to Cuba. Since the sanctions, oil tankers that transport oil between Venezuela and Cuba frequently turn off their lights and their location transmission systems to avoid being detected, jeopardizing the safety of the crew. The ship left Amuay Bay on March 2, 2020.
