Pacific Responder to rescue 'ID Integrity'
Emergency tugs have been sent to rescue a cargo ship stranded on the Great Barrier Reef after its engine lost power yesterday. The 26,000 tonne vessel, ID Integrity, was en route from Shanghai to Townsville when it broke down near Shark Reef in the Coral Sea, about 175 nautical miles north-east of Cairns. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority said the first tug would not arrive at the scene until tomorrow morning. The Pacific Responder is coming from the Torres Strait. It is unclear where the other tugs, dispatched by the owner of ID Integrity, are coming from. As at 2.10pm AEST, the unladen Hong Kong-flagged bulk carrier was about 12 nautical miles east of Shark Reef, an AMSA spokeswoman said. It is drifting towards Shark and Vema reefs. AMSA said it was considering all possible scenarios and to ensure everything was done to help the vessel.
