Ferry back in service
An inspector attended a trial trip of 1,5 hours aboard the "Oslo XI" on July 17 and had nothing to comment on, so that the ferry could resume sailing. On June 29 she had allided with a pier on Hovedøya outside Oslo with 134 passengers on board after a loss of engine power. Eight people were injured, one of them was sent to hospital, but was released the following day. Both the Norwegian Maritime Directorate and the AIBN were notified after the accident. The AIBN has now chosen not to investigate the incident. After the accident, divers examined the propeller to see if ropes or other things could havejammed it, but found nothing. The engine was also examined without finding fault. The main theory was that there could have been a fault in the gearbox. The gearbox was taken out and sent for service. Worn parts were replaced before the gearbox was installed in the ferry again.
