Disabled trawler towed to Peterhead
On Aug 30, 2019, the Fraserburgh RNLI responded to the "Northern Eagle - N 73" which had suffered a power loss near Peterhead about a mile south of the Boddam Power Station in the afternoon. While the "Willie and May Gall " was route to the casualty the swell of 1.5 meters quickly changed to a swell of 3.5 meters. Coxswain Vic Sutherland and his crew located the vessel off Buchanness Lighthouse. The lifeboat was manoevred close enough to the trawler that a line could be thrown aboard, but far enough away so that the two vessels wouldn’t collide in the huge, heaving seas with both vessels pitching and rolling heavily. The heaving line could successfully be transferred onto the casualty despite the extremely difficult conditions. The ship was then pulled to Peterhead Harbour where the tow was transferred to the local pilot boats. After escorting the "Northern Eagle" to her temporary berth, Fraserburgh Lifeboat tied up at the other side. They got back home and made the lifeboat ready for service at 6.30 p.m. Report with photos and video: https://rnli.org/news-and-media/2019/august/31/fraserburgh-lifeboat-assists-a-stricken-vessel-in-difficult-conditions
