Tanker troubled in Humber estuary

Mon Aug 27 18:50:44 CEST 2018 Timsen

The "Nordic Sund" suffered a system fault of the variable pitch propeller control, on Aug 27, 2018, at 2 a.m. in the Humber river estuary, southeast of Hull, in pos. 53 35.5 N 000 02.16 E. The tanker was en route from Kingston to Southampton. A tug was tasked to assist in manoeuvring to anchorage and to provide escort to vessel. The escort tug "Svitzer Valiant" (IMO: 9366902) arrived at 5.50 a.m. The ships headed towards Hamble. At Hull anchorage the pilot was disembarked, and the sip resumed the voyage after repairs were carried out. ETA Hamble was Aug 28, 11 p.m. now. The tug returned to Immingham.

Explosion in Antwerp

Wed Sep 07 10:58:20 CEST 2011 Timsen

An explosion on board the "Clipper Sund" in the night of Sep 5, 2011, was caused by a leak through which some chemicals came into contact with each other in the port of Antwerp. The "Clipper Sund" was moored at the quay of the company LBC Tank Terminals. Three products including nitric acid, came into contact. This led to a chemical reaction that resulted in a violent explosion. The bright flash severely wounded a worker from the Philippines. He had to be resuscitated on site and later died of his injuries in hospital. The Antwerp Fire Rescue came with an expert team. An IGS Team (Hazardous Materials Incident) also responded jointly with the consultant for Hazardous Substances (AGS) of the province of Antwerp. The products were being analyzed to see how the leak could be closed and how the dangerous cocktail might be removed. The explosion did not threaten the ship's integrity as it happened on the deck of the tanker. Thus the ship suffered only little damage.
