Accident report in fire published
It was an electric arc from a severed extension cable that most likely caused the fire on board the 'Almirante Storni' on Dec 4, 2021, an State Accident Commission found out, which has now released its final report. The fire started in the timber cargo off Gothenburg. Only after the arrival in the Port of Gothenburg on Dec 11, the fire could finally be extinguished. On Jan 18, 2023, the National Accident Commission, SHK, released its report on the fire, including conclusions based on the fire scene investigation that was carried out during the unloading in Skandiahamnen. During the investigation an extension cable was found which was likely the remains of a cable that was used for lighting when the ship loaded in Orrskär. When the ship departed, the extension cable was cut off and left. The SHK assessed that the probable cause of the fire was that an arc in the extension cable ignited the timber load. The way in which the timber packages were loaded also meant that the fire could quickly increase in intensity and spread. The handling of the ship fire was largely carried out in an efficient manner relative to the prevailing conditions. No people were injured and no hazardous substances were released. However, there was damage to the ships during the extinguishing. Full report: https://www.havkom.se/assets/reports/SHK2023_01-ALMIRANTE-STORNI-Slutrapport.pdf
